RAZORBLADE ROMANCE

Razorblade Romance is the second album released by HIM in 1999, featuring such hits as Join me in death, Poison Girl, Razorblade kiss and Right here in my arms. The band’s second release received platinum thanks to single Join me in death that was the soundtrack of the German movie “The 13th floor”, intoducing the band to broader audiences. But this is not all about it. In their second studio attempt HIM managed to capture many different flavors resulting to a more mature work. The pink cover picked to stand out from the ususal dark-colored rock albums – according to singer-songwriter Ville Valo – hardly goes unnoticed… It starts out hard with the song I love you (prelude to tragedy) ,one of the strongest in the album, following Poison Girl. I did all just for her he’s trying to convince us by repeating it many times in the song.
The first single to be released from the album Join me in death is a hymn for all HIM fans. Beginning with a piano intro and Ville whispering Baby join me in death, this song makes you fall head over heals for this band, if you haven’t already…This life ain’t worth living , we sing our lungs out with him. The whole album emphasizes on the LOVE issue, how much He loves Her. The next track , which was the second single follows the same motive. So hard she’s trying but her heart won’t turn into stone and she keeps on cryin’ ‘cause I won’t leave her alone…It’s hard to overcome Valo’s songwriting ability. I love every single tear you cry he says and the music sticks to your heart. Gone with the sin is the slowest track so far. It serves as the cold summer breeze before the sun rises, heating everything up. Razorblade kiss is to come next. It’s most definitely the strongest one in the album. Especially famous for this part: Inside you baby I’m not afraid to feel, I want you to love me ‘cause you’re the one. It reminds us of Greatest Lovesongs Vol.666 a lot. Bury me deep inside your heart is the rainbow after the storm. Let me wake up in your arms he whispers…let me be so dead and gone always using the love and death contradicting theme as his compass. All I ever wanted was you, my love sings loudly, breaking our hearts. I’m in love with you is repeated several times in Heaven tonight, another soft listening in the album. Just as we’re close to weeping, Death is in love with us comes to spice things up. Getting straight to the point It’s not our fault if the reaper holds our hearts. Ville’s distorted vocals makes it a different , interesting piece . And after we’ve been buried several times so far, it’s time for the Resurrection. Again a slow intro, it’s almost like the music ‘bows’ to the vocalist’s heavenly voice, all leading to a louder chorus…We’ve been slaves to this love from the moment we touched. Yes, we have. One last time we have to say goodbye. My darling won't you feel the sweet heaven in our endless cry …a sweet ending to an album that is like the sea, wavy or calm, always evoking the purest of emotions while inviting us to rock our hearts out… Razorblade Romance is HIM’ s next step, complicated, varied, complete. It surely is buried inside of the heart of every HIM fan…
