FANS OR GROUPIES?
What’s the difference between being a fan or being a groupie? Someone is well aware of the difference, someone else instead don’t catch the real significance of that word.
Both things have something in common, in fact everything starts from being a fan.
But then, after that, something starts in the minds of the fans, not in every at least, but just some of them have the ‘luck’, the courage and the impudence to get to what they really want.
Since forever the dream of every fan is to share real life moments with their idols, and that could mean just talking with them in front of a beer till being something more private and close, such as following them on tour or getting into their beds, because, unfortunately, the autograph and the picture with them is not enough anymore.
Groupies in fact are well known, till early 60’s, to be the main boosters of a band, and, as someone says, even the muse who inspire them, or more sadly, their flesh dolls.
A personal thought, everything is based on the dignity of the fan, I mean, crossing a certain line, you are not just a fan but a toy after the concert.
There are many groupies who have become famous in their career, such as Courtney Love, Savannah, Bebe Buell (mother of Liv Tyler), Marianne Faithfull, Cynthia Plaster Caster, (well known for making casts of the intimate parts of the rockstars she met), and Uschi Obermaier (probably the most famous German groupie of the late 60’s, on whom is based the movie “8 miles high” with the German actress Natalia Avelon).
Many books have been written about this matter, above all from the groupies themselves, many songs and movies, which really explain what’s the matter of being a groupie.
It could be enough the example of the scandal-book written by Pamela Des Barres, where she talks really easily about her sexual meetings with rockstars such as Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Jim Morrison, Frank Zappa, Jimi Hendrix and so on…
Many are the songs based on the groupies, something like Young Lust" by Pink Floyd; "Crew Slut" and "What Kind Of Girl Do You Think We Are?" by Frank Zappa; "Fat Bottomed Girls" by Queen; "Rip This Joint" by Rolling Stones; "Black Dog" and "Living Loving Maid" by Led Zeppelin e "Star Star (Starfucker)" by Rolling Stones.
Talking about the movies, everybody knows Almost famous directed by Cameron Crowe, a 2000 movie.
Even in Rock star, by Stephen Herek (2001) it is portrayed that weird atmosphere which couldn’t be seen simply by staying in front of a stage.
A thought comes clear into my mind with a question: is it good to go back that stage trying to have and to give emotions and feelings, getting back nothing more that that or being in front of it always dreaming, but with our feet strongly on the ground?
This is my thought, you could try to answer it!
