INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL

19 years. This is how long we had to wait to enjoy on the big screen a new adventure of the most beloved archaeologist in the world, the unforgettable Indiana Jones. Fortunately the producer George Lucas and the director Steven Spielberg bestowed to the fans the fourth episode, and what’s more they removed all the fears become true for the second “Star Wars” trilogy: that the original spirit of the work could be irreparabily ruined by the progress and the attention to the new media. If you have to see the movie yet don’t read this article, because I’m going to spoiler: my advice is to run to the nearest theatre, and be sure you will come out after a good measure of amusement in the style of the “good old times”. To be honest something has changed: years passes by even for the eternal professor Jones, who in spite of some year more on his back (Mr. Ford’s fans don’t be scared! He is more charming than ever) has to fight not against the Nazis as always, but against the Russians of a very hard Cold War. The Soviet Republic sends against him one of the most dangerous spies of its: Irina Spalko (a very good Cate Blanchett: with a never seen before black pageboy hairstyle and an odd accent succeeds in giving to her character dignity and class), who is captain of a small army and is trying to reach a mysterious sculpture of Maya origin, a skull entirely carved in crystal. Indiana must fight against her to help the youngster Mutt (Shia La Beouf in a nice imitation of Marlon Brando), whose mother has been kidnapped by the Russians together with professor Oxley, the greatest expert about Eldorado, the famous golden city where the thirteen crystal skulls should be, as remains of thirteen alien creatures that the Pre-Columbus populations identify with their gods. Among gun fires, breath-taking chases, giant ants attacks and many other misfortunes, Indiana, Oxley, Mutt and his mum – Marion Ravenwood ( Indiana’s former sweetheart in “Raiders of the Lost Ark”) succeed in escaping and reaching the ruins of the temple that keeps inside the Crystal Skulls’ secret. A secret I don’t want to reveal because I can’t crash the surprise for those who still have to go to the movies (hurry up, you slouch!). All that I can disclose is something everyone already knows: Indiana Jones has a son (his name is NOT Oxley, so figure who I’m speaking about!), the actress Karen Allen gives us Marion’s character exactly how we remembered her: nice, ironic and independent: The movie in general is really a good amusement for everyone. It is so good to exit the theatre with a large smile for having been taken back in time for a couple of hours, when the computer graphic was not more important than the story and to be unable – yes absolutely unable! – to NOT whistle that old, nice, well-known melody that follows the credits…TATTARATTAAAAAA TATTARAAAAAAAA….
